About ALSO.

We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.

ALSO is looking for a Sr. Staff Embedded Electronics Design Engineer to develop electronics systems for multiple micromobility platforms.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the definition of electrical hardware and software–enabled customer experience features, translating them into clearly documented subsystem technical requirements, system block diagrams, and software functions.

  • Own the development and maintenance of the IoT system roadmap, incorporating emerging wireless connectivity technologies such as cellular (5G, RedCap, LTE Cat M1) BLE, UWB, and Wi‑Fi.

  • Drive technical decisions on hardware chipset selection, software tools, development methodologies, and security architectures for embedded systems.

  • Manage the design and development of embedded systems, including wireless communication protocols, MCU architectures, and low‑level drivers.

  • Design and optimize embedded hardware for power efficiency, reliability, EMC/EMI performance, and manufacturability.

  • Perform schematic capture, component selection, and PCB layout optimization (stack‑up, impedance control, thermal management) for mixed‑signal and RF systems.

  • Implement and verify power supply architectures, including DC‑DC converters, linear regulators, and battery management systems.

  • Conduct design reviews, simulations, and worst‑case analysis to ensure compliance with performance and safety requirements.

  • Oversee connectivity module development timelines, coordinating with stakeholders to deliver high‑quality, scalable systems within target schedules.

  • Partner with supply chain, PCB assembly suppliers, and contract manufacturers to transition designs from prototype to production, including PCBA functional testing, module‑level testing, and regulatory compliance (FCC, CE, PTCRB, etc.).

  • Develop and execute detailed test and validation plans for hardware and connectivity features, and provide hands‑on debug support using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, etc.).

  • Support firmware engineering in hardware bring‑up, BSP development, and system integration testing.

  • Maintain requirements and validation tracking in the company’s requirements management tools.

  • Act as the primary interface between the connectivity engineering team and other disciplines (Systems, Mechanical, Software, Controls, Validation) to ensure alignment and cross‑team efficiency.

  • Provide status updates in program meetings and to leadership.

What You Will Bring

  • Proven track record (8+ years) of delivering breakthrough embedded electronics solutions from concept to mass production, with a passion for innovation and continuous learning.

  • System‑level thinker with the ability to architect, integrate, and optimize complex embedded systems spanning hardware, firmware, connectivity, and manufacturing readiness.

  • Leadership in cross‑functional environments — able to influence design direction, mentor engineers, and drive consensus across hardware, software, mechanical, and systems teams.

  • Deep expertise in HDI PCBA design, high‑speed and RF layout, hardware bring‑up, and system‑level characterization.

  • Broad foundation in analog, digital, and mixed‑signal electronics, low‑cost MCU platforms, sensors, signal conditioning, and low‑power embedded system design.

  • Hands‑on mastery of wireless connectivity technologies — BLE, Cellular, UWB, Wi‑Fi, GNSS — including RF front‑end design, antenna integration, and performance optimization.

  • Strong command of embedded communication protocols (SPI, I²C, CAN, SENT, LIN, USB, etc.) and their efficient hardware/firmware implementation.

  • Experience guiding products through certification processes (FCC, CE, PTCRB, MFi, etc.) and ensuring compliance with EMI/EMC and safety standards.

  • Comfortable leading lab‑based development and validation, including use of oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, RF test gear, and power/battery instrumentation.

  • Solid understanding of thermal management, power electronics, and battery system integration in embedded devices.

  • Demonstrated success in taking high‑complexity, high‑volume products through the entire lifecycle — from architecture and prototyping to production ramp and scaling.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (M.S. or higher preferred).

The salary for this position ranges from $250,000 - $280,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
