About ALSO.

We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.

ALSO is seeking a leader of Payroll, Travel & Expense to own the day to day administration of payroll and lead our travel and expense program. You’ll build and scale these functions as we expand domestically and internationally, working closely with Finance and People teams to ensure timeliness, accuracy, and compliance. This is a chance to shape and grow the Payroll function from the ground up.

What You Will Do

  • Establish, grow, and manage and global payroll operations, including U.S. and international exempt and non-exempt employees, as well as contractors, for a rapidly growing employee base of 200+

  • Lead the transition to bring US payroll processing in house by mid-2026 by leveraging the Rippling platform.

  • Serve as the HRIS system administrator for payroll, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and ongoing optimization.

  • Develop the strategy and roadmap for transitioning international payroll from third-party administrators to in-house processing over time and as we scale.

  • Administer the company’s T&E (travel and expense) program, including platform oversight, issuing P-cards and travel cards, and reviewing expenses for policy compliance

  • Partner closely with the People and Accounting teams to align payroll operations with organizational goals and financial reporting requirements

  • Drive continuous improvement in payroll operations by implementing automation, scalable processes, and strong internal controls while ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for employees regarding payroll matters, providing timely, accurate, and clear responses.

  • Own payroll audits, payroll tax reporting, and other ad hoc compliance requirements.

  • Support Legal and People teams with stock administration matters as needed.

  • Maintain organized and complete payroll files and supporting documentation.

What You Will Bring

  • 8+ years of US Payroll experience in a multi-state environment including at least 2 years in a management or leadership role

  • Deep expertise in payroll regulations, U.S. payroll tax requirements, and broader payroll compliance matters.

  • Familiarity with international payroll administration and related compliance considerations

  • Experience with Navan or other travel and expense management systems and with T&E program administration

  • Proven ability to manage and collaborate with third-party service providers as well as internal cross-functional partners.

  • Working knowledge of benefits processing and administration

  • Experience with Rippling highly preferred; NetSuite experience a plus

  • Must possess adequate knowledge of payroll accounting entries and ERP systems.

  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to prioritize work, manage deadlines, and deliver accurate payrolls consistently

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The salary for this position ranges from $160,000 - $220,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
