Role Overview
We are seeking an Assistant Controller to build and scale the accounting function through a period of rapid growth. This leader will report to the Chief Financial Officer and own core accounting operations, financial reporting, audit readiness, and process transformation as the company scales from sub-$100M revenue to well beyond $1bn ARR. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with hands-on operational leadership, systems implementation experience, and a passion for leveraging AI and automation to drive efficiency.
This role will partner closely with Finance, Marketing, Operations, FP&A, Legal, and external auditors to establish a scalable, best-in-class accounting organization capable of supporting a high-growth consumer subscription business.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Scale the Accounting Function: Own the month-end close, financial reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls while building scalable processes that support growth from <$100M to >$1bn in revenue.
Lead Subscription Revenue Accounting: Oversee accounting for a consumer subscription business, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, compliance with ASC 606, and partnership with cross-functional teams on new products and offerings.
Drive Systems, Automation & AI: Lead accounting systems implementations and process transformation initiatives, leveraging automation and AI to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
Own Audit & Compliance: Lead the company’s external audit process, strengthen controls and documentation, and ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
Develop & Lead the Team: Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing accounting organization, including offshore resources, while establishing clear accountability and operating rhythms.
Partner with Leadership: Collaborate with Finance and executive teams on strategic initiatives, business planning, fundraising, and operational decision-making.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in high-growth environments.
Experience helping scale a company from less than $100M revenue to greater than $200M revenue.
Significant experience in a consumer subscription business with recurring revenue models.
Proven track record leading accounting systems implementations (ERP, revenue, close, AP automation, or related platforms).
Experience identifying and deploying AI and automation solutions to improve accounting efficiency, productivity, and accuracy.
Experience leading a company’s first external audit and building audit-ready processes and controls.
Demonstrated success managing offshore accounting teams and distributed operations.
Strong understanding of US GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
A passion for pets!
CPA certification.
Experience in venture-backed, high-growth technology or consumer businesses.
Experience with modern cloud ERP platforms.
Experience building accounting processes in advance of IPO readiness, SOX compliance, or public company requirements.
Strong analytical and business partnering capabilities.
