Full-time
Instrumental technology is used by the world’s most admired electronics brands, such as Meta, NVIDIA, Bose, and Cisco, to significantly reduce the $12T caused by downtime and mistakes every year in manufacturing. Our technology leverages data coming off the manufacturing floor and our proprietary AI to automate failure identification and resolution, improving yield, quality, and time to market.
As a Software Integration Engineer (MES & Data Systems) in our Shenzhen office, you will design, implement, and support integrations between customer factory systems, Instrumental’s inspection equipment, and Instrumental’s cloud platform.
You will work closely with Instrumental TPMs, CSM/CSE, Solutions Architects, and customer factory IT/Engineering teams to deliver reliable, production-ready integrations across development, deployment, testing, and ongoing support.
This role is in-person in our Shenzhen office, with occasional travel for mission-critical deployments.
How Our MES Integrations Work:
Instrumental’s inspection equipment runs on StationOS, a Linux-based environment that loads customer-specific MES and data ingestion modules. Your integration code will run within these stations and interact with customer APIs, factory networks, and Instrumental cloud endpoints.
Strong Python development, structured debugging, and disciplined version control practices are essential.
Responsibilities:
MES Integration Development
  • Design, implement, and maintain MES/SFC integrations for customer factories.
  • Build Python modules that perform routing validation, part-lookup queries, and inspection result uploads.
  • Interpret customer API documentation, resolve ambiguities, and confirm requirements with customer engineering and IT teams.
  • Validate MES connectivity, data correctness, and error handling across dev, pilot, and production phases.
Data Pipeline & Cloud Integration
  • Parse, validate, and transform customer factory data (JSON, CSV, XML, logs) for ingestion into AWS S3 and Instrumental’s API.
  • Develop and maintain AWS Lambda–based ingestion functions and related ETL logic.
  • Collaborate with CX and SA team members to define schemas, transformation rules, and upload requirements.
Integration Testing, Quality, and Deployment
  • Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests (pytest preferred).
  • Validate integrations using customer sandbox systems, VM testbeds, and pre-production environments.
  • Debug issues systematically across application, network, API, and data layers.
  • Follow internal coding standards, version control guidelines, and code-review processes.
Customer-Facing Technical Collaboration
  • Serve as a technical counterpart for customer MES, IT, and engineering teams.
  • Participate in requirement gathering, design reviews, deployment planning, and production readiness assessments.
  • Support TPMs during customer pilots, bring-ups, and integration validation cycles.
  • Provide clear explanations of behaviors, tradeoffs, and technical constraints.
Operational Reliability & Ownership
  • Monitor integration health and proactively address issues to prevent data gaps.
  • Document integration designs, workflows, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Contribute improvements to shared integration frameworks and coding patterns.
  • Rare, optional travel may be required for high-priority deployment or escalation scenarios.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, integration engineering, manufacturing software, or related fields.
  • Strong Python skills; comfortable with modular code design, type hints, error handling, and logging.
  • Experience with MES/SFC systems or industrial/manufacturing data flows.
  • Proficient with REST APIs, JSON, authentication patterns, schema alignment, and API debugging.
  • Familiar with Linux environments, structured debugging, and networking fundamentals.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills in both Mandarin and English.
  • Able to collaborate across time zones with US-based TPM, CX, and SA teams.
  • Experience supporting or interfacing with electronics manufacturing customers is preferred.
