About the Job

Peak Energy is seeking a highly motivated and business-minded Corporate Counsel to join our growing team. This role will serve as a key legal partner across the company, supporting a broad range of commercial, operational, corporate, and strategic initiatives.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on legal generalist who thrives in fast-moving environments and enjoys building processes from the ground up. You will work closely with leadership, commercial, engineering, supply chain, and operations teams to help scale the company responsibly while enabling the business to move quickly and efficiently.

The ideal candidate is someone who can operate with a high degree of autonomy, exercise strong judgment, and confidently own projects from start to finish. This role will act as a critical extension of the legal function and help establish scalable legal frameworks, contract processes, and operational best practices as Peak enters its next phase of growth.

Responsibilities

Commercial Contracting & Business Operations

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements including sales and service contracts, offtake agreements, and procurement and vendor agreements
  • Partner closely with commercial and sales teams to improve contracting workflows and support rapid business growth
  • Support supply chain and procurement initiatives, including manufacturing, equipment, and strategic supplier relationships
  • Assist with performance guarantees, commissioning terms, warranties, and other operationally complex contractual provisions relevant to the energy industry

Corporate & Strategic Initiatives

  • Support corporate governance activities, fundraising efforts, board materials, and related corporate matters
  • Provide legal guidance on new business initiatives, partnerships, and emerging workstreams across the organization
  • Help establish internal legal processes, policies, and operational protocols that enable teams to operate efficiently and autonomously
  • Serve as a trusted advisor capable of balancing legal risk with business objectives in a fast-paced startup environment

Intellectual Property & Regulatory Support

  • Support intellectual property matters including patents and trademarks, and coordinating with IP counsel as needed
  • Provide practical guidance on regulatory and compliance matters impacting the business and energy storage industry

Minimum Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership California state bar
  • 5+ years of legal experience with a combination of law firm and/or in-house experience preferred
  • Experience independently drafting, negotiating, and advising stakeholders through transaction lifecycles with a practical, business-oriented mindset with sound judgment and a strong attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of corporate law, commercial contracting in the energy industry, and general business operations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and execute autonomously in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across technical and non-technical teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior in-house counsel experience at an energy, infrastructure, climate technology, or manufacturing company
  • Experience working closely with engineering or product organizations
  • Experience supporting fundraising, M&A, and corporate governance matters
  • Knowledge of California and Texas energy markets is a plus

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $170k - $235k, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills.
