Quantum Source is a novel key player at the forefront of the world-wide effort towards large-scale quantum computation. Based on proprietary technology, Quantum Source is developing a unique photonic quantum computer that can support efficient quantum error correction. We are a young, dynamic, and extraordinarily multidisciplinary company that combines the fields of quantum physics, quantum optics, atom cooling, opto-mechanics, mechanical engineering, hardware, firmware, and software. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated physicist to join our experimental physics group. You will play a crucial role in our quantum computing research and development efforts with emphasis on scaling up our platform. You will take part in the development of novel technologies and define requirements for multidisciplinary groups of photonic-chips, control, mechanical engineers, and system architectures. This includes developing experimental setups, conducting high-precision measurements, deep literature review and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Stay current with the latest advancements in AMO physics, quantum technology and related fields
  • Identify new technology and techniques to meet project requirements
  • Design and develop complex experimental setups
  • Conduct high-precision measurements and experiments to characterize and optimize cold atom systems, actuation platforms, and micro-optical systems
  • Develop and verify methods for calibration, self-test, and control of photonic systems
  • Integrate complex opto-mechanical systems, electronics, and software into quantum devices.
  • Debug complex systems and work with other engineering teams to conduct failure analysis
  • Initiate and lead collaborations with manufacturers and research groups
  • Execute modelling, simulation and analytical calculations to design systems required to meet product performance

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in experimental physics
  • Proficiency in designing and setting up complex experimental apparatus
  • Proven experience architecting and integrating complex systems with both hardware and software components
  • Broad technical knowledge with ability to dive deep into required technical areas of our systems including hardware, precision measurements, photonics, and quantum information
  • Ability to lead independent research
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Experience in the following fields is an advantage:
  • Optics
  • Ultra high vacuum technology
  • Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems
  • Cold atom/ions
  • Familiarity with mechanical, optical, and electronic design packages
  • Cleanroom / nanofabrication experience
