About Us
Reframe Systems is on a mission to build net-zero carbon housing for all, at massive scale. To achieve our mission, we need to make net-zero carbon housing more affordable and we are re-imagining how housing is designed and built. Our volumetric module platform and highly-automated production system will drive down cost, delivery time, and embodied carbon for multifamily housing. We are setting up our first digital factory in the greater Boston area (Andover, MA), and have a roadmap to scale our presence nationally. We are disrupting assembly line manufacturing for housing production and are backed by leading VC firms in the industrial and construction space.
What We're Looking For
We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support and scale our microfactory product and the current microfactory systems. This is an engineering role focused on medium-term and long-term factory improvement, through design, prototyping, manufacturing, and then implementing robotic systems. You’ll work closely with the robotics team and with other engineering groups, combining hands-on problem solving with clear communication and a high sense of ownership. The ideal candidates are comfortable studying, designing, and building factory and automated work cells and robot subsystems; they should also be eager to take initiative in a fast-paced, tech-forward factory.
Responsibilities
Design, model, and document mechanical subsystems for robotic workcells (e.g., end effectors, grippers, fixtures, conveyors, safety enclosures, etc.)
Develop robust, manufacturable designs using Onshape
Apply DFM/DFA principles to optimize for repeatable, low-cost fabrication and ease of assembly
Prototype and iterate using in-house tools (mills, lathes, 3D printers, laser cutters, etc.)
Collaborate with controls, software, and manufacturing engineers to integrate mechanical designs with actuators, sensors, and control systems
Create detailed fabrication drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation for internal or vendor production
Oversee vendor fabrication and ensure components meet tolerance and quality requirements
Participate in factory builds, commissioning, and troubleshooting of new and existing robotic workcells
Conduct root-cause analysis on mechanical failures or reliability issues, implementing design revisions as needed
Continuously improve existing mechanical systems for safety, performance, maintainability, and scalability
Participate in design reviews and present technical decisions with supporting analysis
Support new microfactory deployments — helping adapt existing systems to new footprints or processes
Basic Qualifications
Minimum 1-3 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer is required for this role. Bachelor's degree in an engineering field is required. Background in the construction industry is a plus.
Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and implement hardware and work cell solutions
CAD Design Skills: Onshape Preferred but others acceptable
Analysis: FEA, structural and kinematic design
Hands on fabrication: CNC Machining, Sheet Metal, Additive Manufacturing, Assembly, Outsourcing and Purchasing
Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently to resolve issues
Proven ability to work hands-on with hardware in a production or industrial setting
Data-driven approach to decision-making, with the ability to collect, analyze, and act on performance data and user feedback.
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Please include a portfolio of works highlighting key CAD projects.
