About Remedy

Remedy is a seed-stage startup committed to addressing the planet’s enormous challenge of environmentally contaminated land. Our mission is to build massively scalable, automated soil remediation solutions to return contaminated land to productive use. We do this by developing and deploying novel integrated chemical, hardware, and software systems that destroy harmful pollutants.

Position Summary

Remedy builds software and data tools to better understand and solve environmental problems. We focus on practical, high-impact systems that connect science, data, and decision-making.

We are hiring a Software Engineering Intern to help build data-driven applications and usable AI tools that support real-world environmental workflows. This role is ideal for someone who wants to take ownership of meaningful projects that drive environmental cleanup and community impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build product features for custom applications supporting environmental analysis and regulatory reporting

  • Help develop AI-powered tools such as structured report generation systems, retrieval-augmented workflows, and data extraction pipelines

  • Work with environmental datasets from multiple sources to power internal tools and analysis

  • Collaborate with engineers and domain experts to define requirements and translate them into working systems

  • Write clean, maintainable, and tested code

  • Debug, improve, and extend existing tools

Example projects

  • Develop pipelines for ingesting site regulatory reports and environmental datasets to support retrieval and analysis workflows using LLMs

  • Build a tool that transforms geologist inputs into structured sampling plans used to guide field investigations and generate regulatory deliverables

  • Build a system that uses AI to review and validate report content and flag issues prior to submission to regulators

  • Develop features for interactive GIS and visualization tools to support exploration and analysis of environmental and spatial data

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or related field

  • Strong programming skills (Python, JavaScript, TypeScript or similar)

  • Interest in building practical AI tools, not just models

  • Ability to take ownership of a project and drive it forward

  • Good communication and collaboration skills

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience building web applications using modern frameworks (e.g., React / Next.js)

  • Experience working with backend services, APIs, relational databases, and data pipelines

  • Familiarity with LLMs, RAG systems, or AI tooling (e.g., OpenAI APIs or similar platforms)

  • Interest in environmental or scientific applications

Program Details

  • 10–12 week summer internship

  • Location: On-site 5 days/week in Oakland, CA

  • Paid internship
