Ursa Major’s Summer 2026 Internship Program offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in the aerospace and defense industry while contributing to meaningful, high-impact projects that support our mission and drive innovation in propulsion and advanced manufacturing.
Ursa Major is currently seeking a Controls Manufacturing Engineering intern to join the solids manufacturing team. As an intern on a small, fast-moving team, you will assist on the manufacturing development efforts on solid rocket motors. The ideal candidate will take a hands-on role in the manufacturing process, including helping with system designs and fabrication of tolling for our existing equipment. Manufacturing intern will be expected to also work closely with quality, design engineering, and build technicians to continue maturing our manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing an understanding of production subassemblies, workflows and testing requirements to support automated manufacturing systems.
- Support PLC programing tasks including editing ladder logic, testing code clocks and maintaining organized code.
- Contribute to the development and testing of operator-friendly HMI interfaces and diagnostic dashboards.
- Help collect and analyze process data to support automation system validation and performance improvements.
- Participate in equipment testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure reliable machine operation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support automation system design, testing and deployment in fast-pace manufacturing environment.
Required qualifications
- Actively pursuing or recently graduated from an undergraduate program related to Engineering
- Strong mechanical sense with hands-on experience
- Exposure to tool design and CAD software (preferably with NX)
- Strong desire for good manufacturing processes
- Willingness to learn and contribute creatively to the team
- Knowledge of inspection methods, common inspection tools, and GD&T
Preferred skills
- Experience with solid rocket motors and its processes
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Lean Transformation, Six Sigma,
- Hands-on experience in production manufacturing environments
Program Details:
- Location: On-site at our Berthoud, CO facility
- Duration: Approximately 10–12 weeks
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday
- This is a paid internship
Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $29.00/hour, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
