This role combines hands-on engineering with strategic technical oversight. You will develop the applications that manage business processes, digitize new workflows, integrate systems across platforms, and help drive VulcanForms’ evolution towards an Industry 4.0 manufacturing environment. Success in this role requires strong software engineering fundamentals, comfort navigating ambiguity, and the ability to translate operational needs into scalable technical solutions.

  • Design, develop, and maintain web applications that support users across Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering to digitize and automate workflows.
  • Develop automated reporting, task scheduling, and orchestration services to reduce manual effort and improve utilization of existing staff. When appropriate, identify, deploy, and manage open-source solutions to accelerate delivery and introduce new capabilities.
  • Serve as a technical bridge between business stakeholders and engineering teams.
  • Leverage CI/CD platforms, logging, monitoring, and observability tools to ensure system reliability and scalability.
  • Ensure applications meet industry standards, security requirements, and compliance expectations.
  • Contribute to elevating team standards through design reviews, documentation, and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for application development, including unit and integration testing.
  • Established experience with cloud-native and containerized workloads (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Nomad).
  • Experience building backend services and APIs (e.g., Flask, REST, gRPC).
  • Experience designing and integrating microservices and external systems.
  • Strong use of CI/CD platforms and demonstrated leadership in furthering software quality practices.
  • Experience with relational database schema management (Postgres, MS SQL) and storage systems (S3, NFS).
  • Proven ability to operate independently, lead technical initiatives, and work effectively in fast-changing environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working at digital-first companies or leading technology-driven transformations.
  • Understanding of distributed and streaming systems (e.g. MQTT, NATS).
  • Experience with service mesh and networking solutions (e.g. Consul, Tailscale)
  • Experience with secret and identity management solutions (e.g. Vault)
  • Experience with infrastructure as code solutions (e.g. Ansible, Terraform)
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, industrial systems, or Industry 4.0 initiatives.

Benefits
