Watchmaker Genomics is inviting applications for the full-time position of Buyer I.
This position reports to the Global Procurement Manager and will be responsible for buying to overall manufacturing plan. This individual will be accountable for ensuring raw materials are available for production according to schedules and customer needs.

Responsibilities
- Assists team members or management on selecting the appropriate supplier to be used based upon value-cost analysis for material or services.
- Work with Quality Assurance (QA) to vet, qualify, and onboard new suppliers; manage ongoing Approved Supplier List and supplier performance KPIs (quality, on-time delivery, cost).
- Negotiates favorable pricing, requests for quote, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers to achieve cost saving.
- Maintains effective and proper relations with suppliers and their representatives.
- Create, issue, and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery through expediting or delaying as needed.
- Procure raw materials, reagents, consumables, and services necessary for R&D and commercial manufacturing operations.
- Analyze material output and raw material demand forecast signals from Demand Planning to determine what materials need to be ordered and when.
- Collaborate with Demand Planning to review production schedules, making appropriate adjustments to ordering frequency to optimize production and meet service levels.
- Analyzes the requirements of raw materials and components, including specifications, preferred supplier, and date material is needed to support the production schedule.
- Maintains timely control of purchase orders, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Requirements
The candidate should have at minimum a BS in business, accounting or related supply chain field, with at least three years of relevant industry experience, including manufacturing, supply chain, or quality control. Broad knowledge of life science reagents or genomics is a plus.
The following skills and experience are requirements for the position:
- Negotiation: Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration (with Manufacturing, QA, Finance, R&D) and supplier management.
- Problem-Solving: Proactive ability to identify and resolve supply chain risks and material shortages.
- Exceptional attention to detail and cross-functional communication skills
- Skilled at building and managing schedules, timelines, and inventory allocation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read, write, and edit working documents
- The ability to multitask, be able to work at a high standard, perform consistently under pressure along with pre-determined deadlines and work without supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work as an effective member of a team.
- Excellent communication and personal task/time management skills and a high level of self-motivation and initiative.
- A creative and disciplined approach to problem-solving.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in a buying, procurement, or planning role, preferably within the Biotech, Pharmaceutical, or Medical Device industry.
Compensation
The base compensation for the Buyer I role starts at $65,000-$75,000 + bonus + equity; actual pay will be adjusted based on skills and experience. Employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off, Holidays, employer covers 75% of base medical plan with buy-up options, EAP (employee assistance program), employer paid dental, employer paid vision, employer paid $25,000 life/AD&D policy, paid parental leave, and a 401(k) retirement plan with a 4% match.
