Position Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Commercial Trainer to design, deliver, and continuously improve technical and sales training programs for Watchmaker’s global commercial organization. This role will ensure that our commercial team is equipped with the technical expertise, product knowledge, product positioning and consultative skills required to effectively engage with customers, articulate product value, and drive adoption of Watchmaker’s solutions.
This is a remote position with travel requirements of up to 30% within the US (potentially globally), including co-travel with commercial team members, conferences and key events. The ideal candidate has a strong background in genomics or molecular biology, coupled with experience in sales enablement, training, and commercial excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall commercial training strategy, development, and execution of the curriculum, including new hire onboarding, ongoing product education, and advanced sales skill training.
- Develop and deliver engaging technical training programs for sales, field applications, and commercial teams, focused on Watchmaker’s products, applications, and scientific workflows.
- Partner with product management, R&D, and commercial leaders to translate complex scientific concepts into accessible, customer-focused messaging.
- Create scalable training resources (presentations, playbooks, e-learning modules, assessments) that reinforce knowledge retention and field readiness.
- Conduct onboarding training for new sales hires and ongoing professional development for experienced team members.
- Assess training effectiveness through feedback, performance metrics, and knowledge assessments; iterate content to improve outcomes.
- Support product launches by designing and delivering training curricula that align with market positioning and sales strategies.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning within the commercial organization.
Skills and Requirements
The following skills and experience are requirements for the position:
- Strong scientific background with ability to communicate complex concepts in clear, compelling ways.
- Proven experience designing and delivering both in-person and virtual training programs.
- Excellent facilitation, presentation, and communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset with ability to partner across product, marketing, sales, and R&D teams.
- Willingness to travel (up to 30%) to support training events and customer-facing initiatives.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or related field; advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) is a plus.
- 8+ years in Life Science discipline with 5+ years of experience in technical sales training, sales enablement, or commercial operations within life sciences or genomics.
Compensation
The base compensation for the Commercial Trainer role starts at $110,000 to $150,000 + bonus + equity; actual pay will be adjusted based on skills and experience. Employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off, Holidays, employer covers 75% of base medical plan with buy-up options, EAP (employee assistance program), employer paid dental with a buy-up option, employer paid vision, employer paid $25,000 life/AD&D policy, paid parental leave, and a 401(k) retirement plan with a 4% match.
